Russian officials reported on Saturday that overnight Ukrainian drone attacks within Russia resulted in eight fatalities and injuries to more than 60 individuals.
Ukrainian forces continue a sustained aerial campaign targeting energy infrastructure and military sites inside Russia, seeking to weaken Moscow’s war capacity and bring the impact of the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine—now in its fifth year—home to Russian citizens.
According to Russian authorities, two large Wildberries warehouses—belonging to one of Russia’s biggest online retailers—were struck overnight by Ukrainian drones. One was in Kotovsk, Tambov region, around 360 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, and the other in Elektrostal, roughly 50 kilometers east of Moscow.
Both facilities caught fire. Wildberries founder Tatyana Kim stated Saturday morning that the Kotovsk blaze had been extinguished. Russian online media published images and video of the Elektrostal site engulfed in flames with large smoke columns rising above it.
A separate drone struck an oil depot in Noginsk, just north of Elektrostal, causing a fire and leading to evacuations of a nearby maternity hospital and residential block, Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov said.
In a Telegram post on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said long-range strikes hit two “significant logistical facilities in the Moscow and Tambov regions.”
“These facilities were used by the aggressor to supply sanctioned components for the production of drones and navigation equipment,” he wrote, adding that an oil site was also targeted.
Tambov governor Yevgeny Pervyshov said seven night-shift workers died at the Kotovsk warehouse and 25 were wounded. Vorobyov reported 37 injuries in the Moscow region, one of whom later died in hospital.
Vorobyov added that drone debris ignited a fire at a kindergarten in Elektrostal, which has since been put out.
In Vladimir, about 180 kilometers east of Moscow, a drone hit a residential building and caused a brief fire, governor Alexander Avdeyev said, noting there were no casualties.
Zelenskyy also said Ukrainian special operations struck targets in the Sea of Azov and occupied territories.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses downed 379 Ukrainian drones overnight over 19 regions, plus annexed Crimea, the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
