Last week, the Delhi Capitals appointed Sourav Ganguly as their head coach, succeeding Hemang Badani. This change aligns with the agreement between the franchise’s co‑owners, GMR Sports India Pvt Ltd and Jindal South West (JSW) Sports, under which each will manage operations for alternating two‑year periods following IPL 2024.
Yuvraj Singh is set to assume his first formal coaching position with the Delhi Capitals. Speaking in a statement, he said, “I am excited to start a new chapter with the Delhi Capitals. I have a longstanding relationship with the franchise and know its owners well, making this a special opportunity. I look forward to working alongside Dada Sourav Ganguly as a coach. Coaching is a passion of mine, and I eagerly anticipate contributing to this highly talented squad on an exciting journey toward the team’s success.”
Parth Jindal, co‑owner and chairman of the Delhi Capitals, welcomed Yuvraj’s appointment. “Yuvraj is one of India’s greatest match‑winners and has been instrumental in mentoring many of today’s brightest young cricketers. His experience, winning mindset, and strong rapport with players will be a tremendous asset to our squad.”
In recent years, several Indian cricketers, including Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, and Prabhsimran Singh, have credited Yuvraj for his pivotal contributions to their batting success.
Yuvraj also featured in 14 matches for the Capitals in 2015, amassing 248 runs and taking a wicket after being acquired for INR 16 crore before the season, making him the IPL’s most expensive player at that time.
Overall, Yuvraj has appeared in 132 IPL matches, scoring 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets before retiring from all forms of cricket in 2019.
