New Delhi, October 13: England have officially unveiled their ODI and T20I squads for the forthcoming white-ball tour of Australia, confirming Harry Brook as the captain of both sides. The eight-match series spans three One-Day Internationals and five T20 Internationals across eight venues, commencing with the ODI leg before transitioning to the shortest format in November.
The tour to Australia represents a vital preparation window for England ahead of next year’s ODI World Cup. The selectors have recalled fast bowler Jofra Archer and all-rounder Jacob Bethell to the ODI lineup, while introducing two fresh faces to the T20I setup.
Archer returns following a scheduled period of rest, while Bethell has regained fitness after a knee injury that ruled him out since the ODI series against India in July. Their availability significantly enhances England’s depth as they refine plans for the global tournament.
Conversely, wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has been excluded from both squads following hamstring surgery, and fast bowler Saqib Mahmood is unavailable due to a knee issue, with Luke Wood securing a spot in the T20I squad as his replacement.
Selector Marcus North expressed strong confidence in England’s readiness, noting that the returns of Archer and Bethell bring the side close to full strength ahead of the ODI World Cup next year.
England Name Two Uncapped Players in T20I Squad
England have opted for a younger profile in their T20I squad, handing maiden call-ups to 18-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew and 21-year-old seamer Eddie Jack. Rew, who captained England at the Under-19 World Cup in February, could become only the third 18-year-old to represent England in men’s international cricket if selected for the first three T20Is. Jack brings domestic experience and has previously toured Australia with the England Lions.
Phil Salt also returns to the T20I setup after recovering from a quad injury. The squad features James Coles and Aneurin Donald alongside established names such as Brook, Tom Banton, Bethell, and Will Jacks.
North stated that England would field four uncapped players in the T20I squad, highlighting the selectors’ intent to develop new options alongside experienced internationals.
