Kai Trump, a freshman on the University of Miami women’s golf team, announced on Wednesday that she has undergone surgery to repair a wrist injury sustained in September, sharing the news via Instagram.
The daughter of former model Vanessa Trump and businessman Donald Trump Jr., Kai shared a snapshot of herself lying in a hospital bed at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York, with her bandaged arm resting in a sling.
“While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff, I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love,” Kai, 19, wrote. “It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination.”
“Recovery will take time, but I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people who continue to lift me up, encourage me, and remind me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow. Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
Kai, who sustained the injury during her first college tournament, went on to thank Dr. Carlson and the team at HSS, along with her teammates, coaches, and family for their continued support.
“For now, it’s all about healing, and trusting the process,” she wrote. “I can’t wait to be back with my team, doing what I love. I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever! Go Canes!”
While Kai did not elaborate on a specific timetable for her recovery, she remains optimistic about her return to the course. She managed to compete in a demanding three-round tournament over two days last week in Muncie, Indiana, just before undergoing the procedure.
This latest surgery follows a previous procedure on her left wrist in January, which she revealed was necessary to address injuries to the stabilizing tissues of her ECU tendon and damage to her triangular fibrocartilage complex.
