Drew McIntyre Receives Favorable Word from Triple H Amid Hollywood Commitments
Former Undisputed WWE Champion Drew McIntyre discusses his extended hiatus from ring action stemming from professional film projects.
Since losing to Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania 42, the former champion has been sidelined from in‑ring competition. During his time away, he has actively pursued motion picture work, including >em>The Last Druid and the Highlander reboot.
During his recent episode on Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk, McIntyre shared that he was primed to return to WWE upon completing Highlander. Plans were set to fast‑track his comeback, but redirected when actor Russell Crowe approached him regarding The Last Druid.
“Once I finished Highlander, I was about to return to WWE and received a call from my agent who insisted on speaking with Russell Crowe,” McIntyre recounted. “I hung up on him, citing concerns from another project with Denzel Washington. That development came to light, and I was surprised by his persistence. I forwarded the script to Crowe, hinting at potential dialogue exchange before finding confirmation from WWE leadership.”
McIntyre prepares meticulous case to secure WWE return
Speaking further, McIntyre praised the script and his character interpretation. He presented his proposal to WWE executives, who indicated flexibility on scheduling should Triple H give the green light. Despite assembling a comprehensive speech designed to persuade the chief content officer, the offer arrived unprompted. McIntyre found himself already aligned with the decision-making process.
“I had a full presentation ready to present to Triple H, but when the executives confirmed that his endorsement would be required, I realized there was no need for formal preparation,” McIntyre explained. “They authorized additional time off, recognizing that my personal commitment—both for myself and my brand—matched the scale of the undertaking. I left confident that my arguments would carry weight.”
“The scene became personal when I recalled Russell Crowe’s insistence on having me for The Last Druid. I outlined my vision: I wanted to return post‑movie as the inaugural full‑time WWE performer with dual high‑profile film features in quick succession—a strategic move benefiting both my standalone profile and WWE’s creative diversity,” McIntyre elaborated.
“Ultimately, the chain of events culminated in an unexpected turn. Instead of drafting a lengthy pitch, I simply informed him that I was cleared to proceed. In a moment of levity, I remarked, ‘He doesn’t even need to tell me anymore.’ To my puzzlement, he replied, ‘You’re free to move forward.’ This swift approval underscored his respect for my determination to uphold WWE’s standards.”
Continuing his public reassurance regarding the comeback
“I look forward to sharing my reintegration as well as my in‑ring performance with the audience. While a future appearance may occur shortly after my current Hollywood obligations conclude, for now WWE focuses on supporting Hollywood Drew. My plans are clear: I will speak openly about the journey, knowing that fans deserve transparency. As for timing, they will be glued to every update, because the gratitude is directed toward my resilience rather than WWE itself,” McIntyre concluded. [H/T NoDq]
