The Women’s Premier League continues to draw attention for its bold auction moves, and the 2027 edition held in Kochi on October 28 was no exception. Amid a flurry of signings, one young name dominated headlines.
Delhi Capitals Women secured 15-year-old Uma Kashvi for INR 10 lakh, making her the youngest player ever purchased in WPL auction history. She eclipsed the previous benchmark set by Deeya Yadav, who was 16 when acquired by Delhi Capitals in the prior mega auction.
The development echoes a similar trend in the men’s game, where Rajasthan Royals picked up Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for INR 1.1 crore in the 2025 IPL mini-auction. Kashvi’s signing underscores the depth of talent across both men’s and women’s cricket in India.
A right-arm off-spin bowler and middle-order batter from Karnataka, Kashvi has already represented India Under-19 at the 2026 level. Her WPL debut may face a scheduling conflict, however, as the Under-19 World Cup co-hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal overlaps with the league.
Kashvi’s early achievements are remarkable. She posted an unbeaten 217 in a Bengaluru inter-school junior club tournament at age 12, and earned the Young Talent Award at the India Nippon Cup at just nine. During her formative years, she shared dressing-room space with senior India stars including Deepti Sharma, Veda Krishnamurthy, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shreyanka Patil.
She captained Karnataka’s Under-15 side and guided the Bengaluru Blasters in the Maharani Trophy. Additionally, she featured in Karnataka’s Under-19 T20 campaign, helping the team reach the semifinals of the Women’s Under-19 One-Day Trophy.
In the 2025-26 Women’s Under-15 One-Day Trophy, Kashvi topped the run charts with 516 runs at an average of 172, comprising three centuries and a half-century. Her standout knock came against Manipur, where she struck an unbeaten 158 off 66 balls, featuring 23 boundaries and seven sixes.
She also earned Player of the Match honors for her all-round contribution against Vidarbha in the Karnataka Under-19 T20 Trophy quarter-final.
At the WPL auction, Delhi Capitals added four players to their roster: Kiran Navgire, Nazma Khan, Kirstie Gordon, and Uma Kashvi.
