Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau is scheduled to visit Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Solomon Islands, and Kiribati from August 31 through September 11. While in Palau, he will take part in the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting alongside Forum Dialogue Partners to bolster U.S.–Pacific Island relations. In the Federated States of Micronesia and the Solomon Islands, he will hold discussions with government officials and business leaders to advance shared economic and security objectives. In Kiribati, he will attend the Kiribati Development Partners Forum and meet with national leaders.
Accompanying him on the legs to Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Solomon Islands will be Admiral Kevin Lunday, Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, underscoring the service’s vital contribution to regional maritime security. Additionally, during the Palau segment of the Pacific Islands Forum, he will be joined by other U.S. interagency representatives, including Lieutenant General George Rowell, Deputy Commander of U.S. Pacific Command, and Bill Hague, Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
The Pacific region continues to be a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy. The United States maintains deep, long‑standing relationships with the Pacific island nations, viewing them as both neighbors and friends. Washington remains committed to working with these partners to sustain an open, secure, and prosperous Pacific.
