In a significant development, the Detroit Red Wings have announced the suspension of star player Dylan Larkin without pay, following his decision to cease playing for the organization.

Head coach Todd McLennan confirmed that Larkin would not participate in the upcoming game against the Chicago Blackhawks, with interim General Manager Shawn Horcoff providing the official statement.

According to reports from Elliotte Friedman, Larkin has decided not to play moving forward, citing the organization’s insufficient progress in facilitating a trade. The player has expanded his trade destination list to include 10 NHL teams and has appeared in 10 of the Red Wings’ first 12 games of the 2026-27 season.

“Dylan Larkin has informed us that he will no longer play for the Detroit Red Wings,” Horcoff stated in his official message. “We are disappointed by his decision, particularly given his obligations to the organization and his teammates. We have therefore suspended Dylan without pay.”

“We will continue to explore trade opportunities involving Dylan. In addition to needing his approval, any trade must also be in the best interest of the Detroit Red Wings and support their long-term goals.”

“I want to thank and commend our coaches and players for their continued focus and being committed to competing every day.”

Dylan Larkin’s trade request has dominated discussions since the offseason, with the player seeking a move from the Red Wings. His agent, Pat Brisson, confirmed through TSN’s Pierre LeBrun that Larkin has reached his limit on negotiations. “Dylan’s had enough of the situation,” Brisson wrote. “We believe he’s been very professional and cooperative through this process.”

Larkin’s trade list currently includes the Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Utah Mammoth, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils, and Colorado Avalanche.

The 29-year-old forward has contributed two goals and six points across 10 games this season, averaging 21 minutes and 41 seconds of ice time.
