Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy is set to make his season debut this Saturday when the Tigers face off against the Arkansas Razorbacks, nearly two months after suffering an offseason gunshot wound that left his future in doubt.

According to ESPN, Hardy will return to game action without being inserted into the starting lineup immediately. Instead, he’ll rotate into select plays as the coaching staff carefully manages his workload during the initial phase of his comeback.

Jamal Roberts will continue as the primary starter at running back for Missouri, with Hardy expected to contribute in a supporting role. The tandem creates one of the strongest rushing attacks in the SEC, combining power and versatility that should challenge opposing defenses throughout the season.

Hardy transferred to Missouri from UL Monroe in 2024 and quickly adapted to the rigors of SEC competition. His standout rookie campaign included 256 carries for 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns, highlighted by a 300-yard, three-score performance in the 49-27 victory over Mississippi State.

Projected as a potential first-round talent in the 2027 NFL Draft, Hardy now faces a pivotal decision about his football future. With two years of eligibility remaining, another full season at Missouri could significantly enhance his draft profile and showcase his continued form following the injury scare.

His return to the field marks a remarkable recovery and reaffirms his status among college football’s elite rushers. All eyes will watch closely to see how quickly he regains his explosive form and delivers the long gains that defined his breakout campaign last season.
