Documentary Exposes Mossad’s Covert Pager Operation Against Hezbollah

A new documentary titled Paging Hezbollah has disclosed previously classified details surrounding the Mossad’s 2024 explosive pager operation, which killed or wounded approximately 3,500 Hezbollah operatives. Directed by Justin Polk, the film arrives as censorship restrictions on the covert mission have been lifted, permitting the publication of long-withheld information.

Earlier this year, The Jerusalem Post interviewed “Adam Feyn,” a Mossad operative who participated in the operation and authored a Hebrew-language book, Hoda’ah Goralit (Fateful Message), detailing the mission. The documentary illustrates how Israel infiltrated Hezbollah’s communications network through device engineering and supply-chain manipulation.

It further depicts the multi-year process of designing, marketing, and smuggling the rigged pagers to Hezbollah, all while convincing the organization’s members that the devices were secure and reliable.

According to the film, the operation followed years of meticulous planning. Among its revelations is the elimination of a Hezbollah operative who had grown suspicious of the pagers and attempted to inspect them. That individual was killed alongside another person, with Israel publicly identifying the latter as the intended target while treating the actual suspect as collateral damage.

As scrutiny intensified, Iran dispatched a specialized X-ray machine to scan the pagers for explosives. Israel struck that machine as well, framing the attack as targeting a different objective to preserve operational secrecy.

Details from Gallant interview had remained undisclosed

Former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed these accounts in an interview with N12 shortly after the operation, though the discussion remained censored at the time. Gallant revealed that the operation’s timing was driven by necessity. “In the first week of August, we discovered that there was someone who suspected the pagers,” he told N12.

“I do not really want to get into the details, but look at the list of those eliminated, because we eliminated him, alongside someone else, under various pretexts. Later, we discovered that inspection devices were arriving that were supposed to examine these pagers, and we eliminated them along with additional things.”

“In the middle of the operation, it turned out that somewhere, the pagers were being inspected,” he continued. “The result is that you find yourself in a position where you either have to act or risk being exposed, and that could happen very quickly. There’s only one question on the table: if you try to play around with it somehow, maybe you’ll end up carrying out the full operation, starting with the radios and so on.”

The documentary, slated for release on October 30, features interviews with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Mossad chief David Barnea, and Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin. Netanyahu disclosed certain details in April 2025 despite the information remaining classified at the time, according to a Ynet report citing N12.

“In the third week of September, we learned that Hezbollah had sent three pagers to Iran for scanning,” Netanyahu stated at a conference. “Before that, we bombed such a scanner that they were about to bring; we got rid of it and also of the person operating it.”
