Country music icon Dolly Parton was laid to rest following a private funeral service in Nashville on Friday, the family confirmed, after her passing at the age of 80 earlier in the week.
Parton’s great-niece Lainey Parton, who fondly called the artist “Aunt Granny,” shared her reflections on social media, stating, “I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words. From the time I was little, my granny always had a way of making me feel like I was enough. She never made my dreams feel too big or made me feel like I couldn’t do something. She believed in me before I even knew how to believe in myself.”
The intimate ceremony, attended by immediate family members at Dolly’s request, took place at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum, the same grounds where her late husband, Carl Dean, was interred in a mausoleum earlier this year. A large plaque on the structure now bears both their names, alongside an engraving of her childhood home in Sevier County, Tennessee, symbolizing her enduring connection to her roots.
An obituary from Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum celebrated her life, stating, “A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family.”
The facility further emphasized her legacy, noting, “Dolly Parton’s life was a testament to love, kindness, and resilience. Over seven decades, she touched countless lives with her artistry and unwavering dedication to improving the world through acts like her Imagination Library and community-focused philanthropy.”
