Dolly Parton’s legendary music catalog experienced an extraordinary surge in popularity immediately following her death on Tuesday, with U.S. streams increasing by 2,222 percent since Monday, Aug. 24, according to data from music analytics company Luminate.
The country icon’s vulnerable classic “Jolene” led the charge as her most-streamed track posthumously, garnering 2.7 million on-demand streams in the U.S. on Tuesday alone—a staggering 1,276.15 percent increase. The beloved song, which marked Parton’s first entry onto the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973, is also among her most-covered hits. Close behind was “9 to 5,” the pop-country anthem that accompanied her debut film of the same name, accumulating 2.3 million streams. “I Will Always Love” secured third place with 1.7 million streams, followed by “Here You Come Again” with 1.3 million streams, and “Islands in the Stream” rounding out the top five with 1.1 million streams.
The global response was equally remarkable. Parton’s music achieved 34.9 million streams worldwide on Tuesday, representing a 1,408 percent increase in international streams since Monday.
Beyond traditional audio streams, Parton’s catalog also saw significant growth in audio/video consumption. On Tuesday, she earned 26.3 million audio/video streams in the U.S., reflecting a 2,109 percent increase, and 35 million streams globally—a 1,280 percent surge. Her music catalog also experienced substantial sales growth across both digital and physical formats in the U.S., with 7,300 products sold on Tuesday, marking a 7,739 percent increase compared to earlier in the week.
