Dolphins re‑sign Inside Linebacker Shaka Heyward after Bengals place him on practice squad

The Miami Dolphins have re‑signed inside linebacker Shaka Heyward following his departure to the Bengals’ practice squad. The club announced the move on Tuesday.

Heyward has featured in 18 contests across two seasons with Cincinnati (2024‑25), accumulating eight tackles—including one tackle for loss—while contributing further defensive work and registering a forced fumble on special teams.

Entering the league as an undrafted free agent with the Bengals in 2025, Heyward brought a proven role in Cincinnati’s secondary.

The Dolphins also announced the addition of offensive guard James Ester to its practice squad. Ester originally joined Boston on May 14 after securing a spot on the Raiders’ waivers list; he subsequently became an undrafted free agent with Green Bay in 2024, spending the 2024‑25 season on their practice squad before this latest signing.
