QUETTA: At least 40 fatalities and eight injuries were reported after a passenger bus traveling toward Peshawar veered off the road near Dana Sar in Sherani district, Balochistan, and plunged into a ravine before entering Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan on Friday, officials stated.
“According to preliminary reports, 40 individuals have been confirmed dead and eight others injured in the incident,” said Shahid Rind, the media and political affairs aide to the Balochistan chief minister.
Earlier, Sherani Deputy Commissioner Wali Khan Kakar confirmed the accident location and details to Dawn, noting that the bus had departed Quetta with 36 passengers and subsequently picked up additional riders from a stalled vehicle en route.
The DC reported that rescue teams from the district administration and ambulance services arrived at the crash site promptly following the incident.
Rind’s statement indicated that rescue operations began shortly after the incident, as directed by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti.
