The Democratic Republic of Congo has taken Rwanda to the International Court of Justice, accusing its neighbor of direct involvement in the long-running conflict in eastern DRC.
For years, Kinshasa has alleged that Rwanda has mobilized forces and supported armed groups to conduct illegal operations within its territory.
In a bid to hold Kigali accountable, the DRC filed a case with the ICJ this week, seeking court orders to force Rwanda to cease these activities and award reparations to victims and the government.
Despite the legal action, tensions between the two nations remain high, though some international actors are working to de-escalate the situation.
The filing raises questions about whether the ICJ can play a meaningful role in resolving the regional conflict.
