Sivan and Patrick Dumont are now the controlling owners of the Dallas Mavericks.
The Dumonts acquired Miriam Adelson’s shares in the team last month, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. The transaction gives the family a 69% ownership stake, positioning them as the franchise’s controlling owners.
Adelson remains closely tied to the Mavericks. Patrick Dumont, who has served as the team’s governor since the franchise was purchased from Mark Cuban in 2023, is Adelson’s son‑in‑law. Sivan is Adelson’s daughter.
“It’s really about long-term investment in the city of Dallas,” Dumont told ESPN on Tuesday. “The Dumont family is really committed to building what we hope is the best arena in the NBA, a really significant investment in the city that will help create the new 40‑year home for the Dallas Mavericks, a great experience for our fans and inspire our team to win championships. That’s really what we’re focused on. We had the opportunity, and we’re really excited about it.”
Cuban sold the Mavericks to Adelson in a $3.5 billion deal in 2023, retaining a 27% share. He has since expressed regret over the sale and said he was sidelined from the team’s basketball and business operations after the Dumonts and Adelson took control, particularly following the Luka Dončić trade that sparked fan backlash.
As the CEO of Las Vegas Sands, Dumont holds the option to purchase an additional 20% stake from Cuban at the same valuation in the future, a move he has indicated he plans to pursue.
“I just have to tell you, I love Mark. He’s been a great family friend for a really long time,” Dumont said. “He’s just a super passionate Mavs fan and he’s frustrated. I respect it. We’re going to hopefully do him proud. That’s my goal — to make all of our Mavs fans super proud about the success of the team and win a championship.”
The Mavericks are slated to open a new arena at the Valley View Mall site in north Dallas in the coming years, alongside a new business office and practice facility. Dumont previously oversaw construction of the Venetian Arena in China, which hosts the NBA’s preseason games in the country each season.
Currently the franchise plays at the American Airlines Center, a home since 2001. The team aims to move into the new facility by the start of the 2031‑32 season.
“I think what we bring to Dallas is going to be world class,” Dumont said. “My goal is to make the best arena in the NBA. It starts with the court and expands outwards, and I want to make sure the fans have the best experience possible, because we owe it to them.”
Dallas enters the season with a 4‑3 record, facing the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night. The team has not reached the playoffs since its run to the NBA Finals with Luka Dončić in 2024, after posting a 26‑56 record last season.
