Ebbb Curates ‘Bittersweet Anthems’ Playlist to Complement NME’s The Cover Feature

London’s ascending trio Ebbb have curated an exclusive playlist to mark their appearance on The Cover. The collection, titled ‘Ebbb’s Bittersweet Anthems,’ serves as a sonic companion to their latest profile.

Featured in the June 29 edition of The Cover—NME’s weekly initiative dedicated to championing emerging global talent—the band’s curated selection highlights a diverse range of influences, including Akira Yamaoka, Broadcast, Cocteau Twins, and Pale Saints.

Recognized in the NME 100 for 2025, Ebbb blend expansive hooks with a daring sense of musical exploration and technical precision. These qualities have already earned them a partnership with Ninja Tune and a coveted support slot for The Smile. However, it is the band’s capacity to transform vocalist Will Rowland’s raw, introspective lyrics into powerful, shared live experiences that truly distinguishes them.

“From my perspective, the songs begin as a deeply private, introspective process,” Rowland explains. “I spend time crafting lyrics in isolation, but there is a sense of purging once they reach the stage. I thrive on the dissonance between the euphoric production and the internal lyrical voice.” Alongside producer Lev Ceylan and drummer Scott MacDonald, the group established themselves as a high-impact live act, blending MacDonald’s versatile drumming with Ceylan’s rhythmically chaotic synthesizers.

The band’s sound is defined by a unique fusion of MacDonald’s organic percussion and Rowland’s intricate vocal layering, underpinned by disparate personal histories that merge seamlessly. This approach has resulted in a fresh take on pop music. “I’m essentially learning backwards,” Ceylan notes. “It wasn’t until I began producing sessions that I realized I couldn’t just drop a gabber beat into a verse.”
