The Egyptian FIFA World Cup squad’s bid to remain in Seattle following their Group B victory over New Zealand in Vancouver has been denied, with local security officials rejecting the team’s request to stay in the city ahead of their pivotal final group match against Iran.

“The security authorities declined the team’s proposal to remain in Seattle after their match against New Zealand,” confirmed coach Hossam Hassan in a statement issued by the Egyptian Football Association on Monday.

Consequently, the team will return to their training facility in Spokane, located approximately 280 miles (450 kilometers) east of Seattle.

The Egyptian team had initially sought to base themselves in Seattle to prepare for their upcoming match against Iran. However, security concerns prompted the decision to revert to their original plans.

Egypt’s historic World Cup debut continued with a thrilling 3-1 victory over New Zealand in Vancouver on Sunday. Despite trailing 1-0, the team rallied to secure the win, with Mohamed Salah emerging as a key figure in the comeback.
