Emiliano Martínez has reportedly been offered to Chelsea, with the Argentine shot-stopper open to a move to Stamford Bridge as his tenure at Aston Villa appears to be drawing to a close.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Martínez views a potential transfer to the Blues favorably and would be inclined to accept a move should the club decide to formalize a bid. This interest is further bolstered by the fact that Chelsea’s current lack of European commitments would allow the goalkeeper to focus entirely on domestic competition.
Chelsea’s search for a more reliable presence in goal follows a disappointing performance by Robert Sanchez, who was criticized for his role in both goals conceded during the club’s 3-2 victory over Fulham in the Premier League opener.
The prospect of the move has gained further traction following comments from Gary Neville. Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville urged Chelsea to secure a player of Martínez’s caliber, warning that an unstable goalkeeper can undermine a team’s entire tactical structure. With the transfer window set to close on September 1, Chelsea must act quickly if they intend to finalize the deal.
Zion Suzuki’s Arrival Signals Shift at Villa Park
The likelihood of Martínez’s departure increased significantly after Aston Villa secured the signing of Zion Suzuki from Parma for €35 million. The 23-year-old Japanese international has signed a long-term contract running through 2031.
Suzuki, who was previously linked with a move to PSG, is viewed as the club’s future in goal, with Unai Emery intending to establish him as the primary starter for the 2026-27 campaign.
The shift in priority was evident last weekend when Marco Bizot started in goal instead of Martínez during Villa’s 4-0 defeat to Brighton, further suggesting that the Argentine is no longer central to the manager’s plans.
Following Bizot’s struggle in the Premier League opener, it is widely expected that Suzuki will take over as the first-choice goalkeeper beginning with the club’s next fixture.
