England’s arrival at their Mexico City hotel was greeted by jeers as they prepared for their World Cup last-16 match against the host nation.
The team will face the co-hosts on Sunday at 01:00 BST (Monday), with the match televised live on BBC One and iPlayer.
Heightened security has been implemented at the England squad’s hotel following a noise complaint lodged with FIFA by Ecuador, who faced Mexico in the previous round in Mexico City.
Ecuador’s players were kept awake by local fans who blasted loudspeakers, horns, and motorcycles outside the team hotel late into the night.
Mexico triumphed 2‑0 in that encounter.
Ecuador remained at the Westin Hotel, while England opted to keep their whereabouts confidential, though there were fears the location might be disclosed.
Hundreds of locals gathered outside the hotel as the team bus arrived on Friday, some chanting “Mexico” while others expressed their disapproval.
Members of Mexico’s National Guard were positioned at the hotel’s entrance, with police officers in riot gear standing beside road barriers outside the premises.
