Esteban Ocon Indicates No Immediate Plans for Future Amid 2026 Season Challenges

Esteban Ocon said he has no immediate plans to announce concerning his Formula 1 future, following a challenging start to the 2026 season.

Haas driver Esteban Ocon has earned only three points in the first ten races of 2026, attributing his difficulty to the inconsistent performance of the VF-26.

This represents a continuation of his underwhelming form from 2025, when he placed 15th and trailed rookie teammate Oliver Bearman by three points, a gap that now stands at fifteen points.

With his contract expiring at the end of 2026, Ocon’s position for 2027 is uncertain, and Haas is reportedly evaluating Leonardo Fornaroli or Rafael Camara to partner Bearman.

Ahead of this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix – the last race before the summer break when driver contracts are typically finalized – Ocon was asked about his future.

Ocon responded, “There is nothing to announce at this time. The summer break will be busy, but we remain focused on this race and will see what unfolds.”

He added that while many options exist, the first conversation will be with the team, noting his two‑year tenure and his confidence, having been persuaded by team principal Ayao Komatsu, that a discussion with the team will certainly take place.

The 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix winner has underperformed since his 2025 move from Alpine to Haas, where he became the team’s first race winner.

While he was expected to steer Haas into a new era, Ocon has struggled to string together consistent results and is being outperformed by his 21‑year‑old teammate.

He noted that the VF-26’s inconsistencies affected him in all but two races in 2026, with his only points finishes occurring at Japan and Monaco, representing his weakest start since his 2016 debut.

When asked in Budapest to summarize his season, Ocon said, “It is not frustration, but rather numerous difficulties and issues that have hindered our performance.”

He described the first half of the season as the most challenging he has ever experienced, citing inconsistent car performance and a multitude of problems throughout the year.

He expressed optimism, saying the team is working collectively to improve the situation, acknowledging that the difficulties affect everyone.

He concluded that the team knows its tasks and remains united in addressing the issues, emphasizing the importance of unity.
