Ether (ETH) has been consolidating near the pivotal $2,500 level for several days, approaching a resistance zone identified as a Fair-Value Gap (FVG) spanning $2,500 to $2,700. Clearing this band is the immediate prerequisite for a sustained advance toward $3,000. Although ETH has repeatedly pierced $2,510 during Wednesday’s session to register intraday highs, the higher-timeframe resistance continues to act as a trap for buyers.

Analysts project a clear path to the $3,000 milestone if the largest altcoin can close a weekly candle above the $2,700 threshold. Prominent chartist Alex Marzell frames the monthly FVG as the “final gate,” arguing that a decisive weekly close above this region would remove significant structural obstacles and open the door to a new all-time high, with $3,500 becoming a plausible subsequent target.

Supporting the bullish narrative, analyst Ali Martinez highlighted a contraction of roughly 116,000 ETH in the available supply on exchanges, signaling a preference among holders to accumulate rather than sell. Meanwhile, market veteran Ted Pillows drew attention to a modest liquidity cluster near $2,600 that may serve as near-term resistance, while noting substantial long-side liquidity resting between $1,800 and $2,200—a zone that has historically attracted price.

Should the confluent resistance flip into durable support, on-chain liquidity heatmaps suggest Ethereum is positioned for a longer-term upside bias. Derivatives data corroborates this shift: the long-to-short ratio has edged above parity to 1.017, reflecting a modest tilt toward bullish positioning. Exchange balances continue to decline, a dynamic that typically precedes price appreciation, though this week’s sideways price action underscores the resilience of the current resistance cluster. Open Interest has held steady while leveraged volume surged to $42.3 billion, indicating heightened speculative engagement without a directional commitment.
