This Black Music Month, Tiny Desk celebrates the enduring influence of BET. The network’s commitment to amplifying Black artistry is mirrored in these dynamic performances, capturing the essence of generations of Black music.

As the inaugural artist for this year’s Black Music Month celebration, Eve played a pivotal role in shaping the tone of Tiny Desk’s tribute to BET’s cultural significance. A trailblazer in hip-hop, the Philadelphia-based emcee bridges audiences who grew up with Rap City alongside younger fans who followed 106 & Park>. Though many of Eve’s selections hail from over two decades ago, the reinvigorated arrangements, her magnetic stage presence, and the audience’s rapt attention underscore the lasting power of her artistry.

Following her relocation to London over a decade ago and starting a family, Eve scaled back her musical output. In 2024, she released a memoir detailing her journey through hip-hop’s volatile late ’90s and early 2000s landscape. Not only did she endure one of the genre’s most competitive periods, but she also solidified her status as a powerhouse — selling millions of records as the First Lady of Ruff Ryders Entertainment while carving out a legacy in film and television.

For this Tiny Desk performance, Eve collaborated with music director Mare — known for her work with Tierra Whack’s Tiny Desk — transforming the set into a homage to her Philly roots. Marking the 25th anniversary of her landmark album Scorpion, the setlist featured chart-topping tracks like “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” and “Who’s That Girl,” alongside beloved cuts from Let There Be Eve… and Eve-Olution.
