Everton confirmed Jack Grealish was unavailable for their Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Newcastle due to a breach of club discipline.
Grealish, who is on loan from Manchester City, missed Saturday’s defeat at Arsenal due to illness but had started Everton’s previous three Premier League matches against Ipswich Town, Hull City, and Chelsea.
He was left out by manager David Moyes for Thursday night’s cup tie at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after reportedly missing a training session.
Keith Downie of Sky Sports News said: “My understanding is the reason he’s not involved, and the reason he has been disciplined, is because he failed to show for a training session in the build-up to tonight’s cup tie.”
Jarrad Branthwaite also remained unavailable for a second successive game as he continues to follow concussion protocols.
