Everton target a renewed winter approach for Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee.
The Merseyside club initiated pursuit of the Netherlands international ahead of the summer transfer window, having previously explored a loan structure before the deadline passed without agreement. While United were receptive to facilitating a departure, they held firm on the inclusion of a conditional purchase obligation, a term Everton were unwilling to accept at that stage.
With the transfer window now closed and United actively pursuing alternatives to strengthen their attacking options, Everton have moved to re-enter the market in January. The Toffees have identified Zirkzee as a primary target to bolster their striking department, particularly following the departure of Beto to Fiorentina and the limited senior cover available to manager David Moyes.
Having missed the opportunity to secure Folarin Balogun from Monaco on deadline day, Everton are now preparing a fresh bid for Zirkzee. Sources indicate the club are optimistic they can finalize a loan arrangement this time around, especially given United’s reported plans to bring in a replacement forward during the winter window.
Moyes’ side have operated with Thierno Barry as their sole senior striker since Beto’s exit, and the addition of Zirkbee on a temporary basis would provide immediate cover and depth moving into the new year.
