Tottenham Hotspur is exploring options for a new goalkeeper, but a former scout has expressed doubts regarding their primary target.
Spurs have been linked with Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson, yet former scout Bryan King suggests the move may not be the optimal solution for the club.
While Tottenham initially relied on Guglielmo Vicario, a decline in his form has prompted discussions about his departure. Additionally, Antonin Kinsky, who was trusted at the conclusion of last season, also displayed significant vulnerabilities.
Henderson appears to be a logical upgrade, but King believes his price tag might not match his actual value.
Former scout doubts Tottenham’s goalkeeper selection
“I’ve heard talk about Henderson, but I’m not entirely convinced he is the answer,” King stated, according to reports from Football Insider.
“He is certainly not in the same league as Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton, or Ray Clemence. I believe Spurs need to find a truly elite goalkeeper, but where are they finding one?”
“To be honest, if you are searching within London, Henderson would be the most logical choice, but I don’t expect Palace to be eager to sell their talent. They didn’t get much for their exit with [Lacroix], did they?”
Henderson has long been considered capable of playing for a Champions League-contending side, a step that could potentially help him challenge Jordan Pickford for the England number one shirt.
While he may not match the legendary status of a Gordon Banks, the question remains: is there anyone of that caliber available to sign?
