U.S. President Donald Trump issued an executive order on August 27 to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America,” stating the change would take effect immediately. In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney asserted on X that the Great Lake’s name would remain unchanged “now and always.” This directive follows the collapse of U.S.-Canada trade negotiations last week, which prompted both longstanding allies to implement retaliatory tariffs.
