Family Horrified by Graphic Evidence Presented in D4vd Preliminary Hearing

According to their legal counsel, Celeste’s parents faced an ordeal they were mentally prepared for but found entirely overwhelming in practice.

“This is their first exposure to this specific evidence in detail, and they are devastated,” family attorney Patrick Steinfeld stated to the BBC following the hearing.

“The evidence included an image of Celeste’s torso and head located in a car trunk; it was so distorted that the prosecutor had to clarify the identity of the remains. It was absolutely harrowing.”

“They are struggling to process this and are doing everything they can to cope.”

Steinfeld noted that Celeste’s mother, Mercedes, had been cautioned regarding the graphic nature of the upcoming testimony.

“I advised her that she could leave the courtroom during this portion of the proceedings,” he remarked.

“However, she insisted on staying to support Celeste. She sat there with her head bowed in tears.”

The attorney admitted he had warned the parents that the images would leave a lasting, traumatic impression.

“I suggested they step out briefly, but they chose to remain to demonstrate their support for their daughter.”

“They are a very private family,” Steinfeld added. “This is a parent’s ultimate nightmare.”

The small Los Angeles courtroom reached full capacity well before the start of Tuesday’s session.

The crowd consisted of journalists, social media creators, and members of the public, many of whom had participated in a lottery to secure seating.

A heavy sense of anticipation filled the room.

The room fell silent when Burke was escorted in.

Dressed in an orange jail uniform and shackled at the wrists and ankles, Burke remained chained to his chair for the duration of the hearing, despite his handcuffs being removed.

He offered a brief smile to his defense team before responding quietly and respectfully to the judge’s inquiries.

The courtroom atmosphere shifted significantly during Detective Joshua Byers’ testimony.

As prosecutor Beth Silverman presented graphic images, she repeatedly checked with Celeste’s parents to see if they wished to look away.

During the proceedings, Celeste’s mother was seen receiving comfort from supporters nearby.

The victim’s remains were discovered in September 2025 within the trunk of a Tesla at a Hollywood tow yard.

Detective Byers testified to finding decomposing human remains, including a head and torso, inside a cadaver bag within the vehicle, alongside another bag containing severed limbs.

The detective noted that the level of decomposition made Celeste’s face unrecognizable.

Evidence was also presented regarding purchases made to Burke’s residence under an alias following the death, including chainsaws, body bags, and an inflatable pool.

Investigators allege these items were utilized to dismember and conceal the body.

The prosecution also highlighted tattoos that allegedly link Burke to Celeste.

The court viewed photographs showing a red-ink “Celeste” tattoo on Burke’s left ring finger, as well as a “Shhh…” tattoo on his right index finger.

Prosecutors presented a photo of Celeste featuring a matching “Shhh…” tattoo on her right index finger, alongside an image of a hand with the ring and little fingers severed.

The preliminary hearing is expected to continue for several days as prosecutors call further witnesses to establish sufficient evidence for a jury trial.
