A 17-year-old girl was fatally stabbed during a school attack in Fagersta, Sweden, on Friday afternoon. The assailant, an 18-year-old male, was apprehended following the violent incident, which left three additional minors injured, two with minor wounds and one requiring hospitalization before being discharged.
Emergency responders rushed to Brinell High School, where the suspect allegedly carried a sword and targeted students. Parents of the deceased girl confirmed her identity to local media, expressing profound grief over the loss.
Authorities disclosed that the suspect’s attire included tactical gear, and armed police units were deployed to secure the scene. Investigations are underway to determine if the individual had ties to violent online communities or ideological extremism.
Forensic analysis revealed the suspect’s TikTok account posted a photo of a sword approximately 20 minutes before the attack commenced. The image was reportedly captured in the school’s restroom, according to *Dagens Nyheter*. The account, active for a month, referenced prior mass violence incidents in Sweden and alluded to the far-right perpetrator Anders Behring Breivik.
Detectives are specifically examining connections to a 2015 sword attack in Trollhättan, where a masked attacker killed three individuals before being neutralized by police. Swedish officials are scrutinizing social media platforms for evidence of premeditation or encouragement linked to the suspect’s actions.
The Prime Minister and Opposition Leader Visit Memorial
Political leaders responded promptly: Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Social Democratic Party leader Magdalena Andersson visited the memorial in Fagersta. Kristersson condemned the tragedy, stating, “What should never happen has happened again,” while emphasizing solidarity with affected families.
Sweden’s deadliest school shooting occurred in February 2025 in Örebro, where a gunman fatally shot 10 individuals before taking his own life. Authorities reiterated that no shots were fired during the Fagersta arrest, as earlier reports suggested otherwise.
Prosecutors have charged the suspect with murder and multiple counts of attempted murder. Trial proceedings are expected to address both the physical attack and its alleged digital precursors.
