FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Friday that the bureau has arrested another individual linked to the ShinyHunters hacking group.
In a post on X/Twitter, Patel stated, “Our field agents have apprehended another suspected co‑conspirator of ShinyHunters. He is believed to be responsible for the recent intrusion into the FBI jobs website, which exposed a broad range of sensitive employee data.”
The statement offered no further details, and the FBI has not yet provided additional comment.
It is the third publicly disclosed arrest since the breach came to light in late September. Dutch authorities earlier identified the arrested individual, Pepijn van der Stap, in a report to Reuters; van der Stap has a prior conviction for data theft.
Patel added, “We will continue to collaborate closely with our partners to dismantle what remains of the ShinyHunters group and its associates, wherever they operate.”
