At the October 9 SmackDown event held at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana, new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions were crowned.
Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley defeated Fatal Influence’s Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid, winning the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships at Friday night’s Money in the Bank go‑home show.
The match was initially slated to pair Charlotte Flair with Paxley, but those plans changed after Flair was assaulted backstage by Jade Cargill and her associates earlier that evening.
After the assault, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis told Flair that Cargill and her group had been barred from the building. Injured, Flair requested that Bliss replace her as Paxley’s partner.
Aldis approved the substitution and also announced that no one would be allowed at ringside for the championship match.
Later in the broadcast, Bliss and Paxley faced Henley and Reid in a competitive bout during which Fatal Influence dominated several segments.
In the closing moments, Henley attempted to pin Paxley while Reid sought extra leverage from the ropes; the referee spotted the interference and halted the attempt, preserving the champions’ victory.
Bliss then eliminated Reid at ringside with a Sister Abigail, leaving Henley alone with Paxley inside the ring.
Paxley capitalized with a Cemetery Drive on Henley, securing a pinfall victory that retained the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships for her team.
The win heralds a new championship reign for Bliss and Paxley and ends Fatal Influence’s tenure as titleholders.
The title change occurs the night before WWE Money in the Bank 2026, scheduled for Saturday, October 10, at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
