FibroBiologics, Inc. (FBLG), a clinical-stage biotechnology company, announced that the European Patent Office has granted European Patent No. 3568465, titled “Methods of Enhancing Fibroblast Therapeutic Activity,” which covers its proprietary fibroblast therapeutic technology.
The company specializes in developing treatments for chronic diseases by leveraging fibroblast cells and materials derived from them.
The patent encompasses methods to enhance the efficacy of fibroblasts in cellular and tissue regeneration. This is achieved by exposing fibroblasts to platelet-rich plasma along with specific cytokines, such as fibroblast growth factor alpha (FGF-alpha) or fibroblast growth factor beta (FGF-beta).
Chronic lower back pain is frequently associated with intervertebral disc degeneration. According to the patent, the techniques involve preconditioning fibroblasts with platelet-rich plasma and targeted cytokines to amplify their anti-inflammatory and regenerative capabilities, particularly for treating degenerated disc tissue. The claims also extend to angiogenesis and spinal disc regeneration.
“Fibroblasts are incredible cells, but their effectiveness in the body is heavily influenced by how they are prepared prior to administration,” stated Pete O’Heeron, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of FibroBiologics.
Over the past year, FBLG stock has traded within a range of $0.62 to $11.40. On Tuesday, the stock closed at $1.31, reflecting a decline of 3.68%.
In pre-market trading, FBLG shares rose by 3.05% to $1.35.
