Folarin Balogun will be eligible to represent the United States in their World Cup round‑of‑16 match against Belgium after FIFA suspended his one‑game ban.

The 25‑year‑old forward received a straight red card for a foul on Bosnia‑Herzegovina defender Tarik Muharemović during the co‑hosts’ 2‑0 victory in the round‑of‑16.

FIFA announced that the suspension will be held in abeyance for a one‑year probationary period.

“In accordance with Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the enforcement of the match suspension is postponed for a probationary period of one year,” the statement read.

“Should Balogun commit another offense of comparable seriousness during the probationary period, the suspension will be reinstated and the original sanction applied, without affecting any additional penalties for the new violation.”
