FIFA president Gianni Infantino has announced that United States President Donald Trump will join him in presenting the trophy at the World Cup final.
“We will be together with the president, enjoying the final, and handing the trophy to the winner – of course, together,” Infantino said during a Fox News interview on Tuesday morning.
When asked to confirm the arrangement, Infantino reiterated, “Of course. We are together all the time.” The match will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Trump previously participated in a similar ceremony at last year’s Club World Cup final held at the same venue.
According to reports from The Athletic, citing FIFA sources, Infantino is aiming to attend as many matches as possible throughout the tournament, up to two per day. Trump has not yet attended any matches in this year’s World Cup.
