The Rookie is celebrating a significant milestone, promising an exciting moment.
As ABC’s fall 2026 lineup begins to roll out, several of the network’s top shows remain off the schedule for a few more months. Following its usual pattern, Disney is pushing series such as High Potential season 3, Will Trent season 5, and The Rookie season 9 into the midseason window. Nevertheless, the cast and crew of Alexi Hawley’s show have already returned to set.
This approach guarantees that when The Rookie season 9 returns, there will be sufficient episodes for a steady weekly rollout without lengthy pauses. While viewers have grown accustomed to waiting for new ABC procedural episodes each fall, this season presents extra complications due to the cliffhanger involving Tim Bradford and Lucy Chen at the close of season 8. Beyond resolving that storyline, the series has additional cause for celebration.
Eric Winter shared sneak‑peek images from The Rookie’s upcoming 150th episode on his official Instagram account. Captured during a break in filming, the photos give a glimpse of the milestone event, confirming that the entire cast will appear. Since the series has already aired 144 episodes, this special installment will not serve as the season premiere. See the photos below:
Interestingly, Bailey Nune is absent from the images, prompting questions about her whereabouts. Jenna Dewan is currently competing on Dancing with the Stars, which initially raised concerns about her character’s future on the show. Those worries have been alleviated after confirmation that she can participate in both productions. Although having both series on ABC simplifies scheduling, her absence from the 150th‑episode shoot remains noteworthy.
It is difficult to predict exactly what will unfold in that episode. However, it is safe to assume that Tim and Lucy have returned to Mid‑Wilshire following their kidnapping in the season 8 finale, suggesting the storyline may not revolve around their abduction. Instead, the episode could touch on one of the series’ long‑running arcs, such as John Nolan’s effort to see Oscar and Liam brought to justice. For reference, the show’s 100th episode centered on Nolan and Bailey’s wedding.
Another angle Hawley and his team might consider for this milestone is tied to the debut of the second spinoff, Jay Ellis’s The Rookie: North. A crossover between the two series has already been confirmed and could serve as the flagship’s celebratory episode. Regardless of the approach, fans have something to anticipate when The Rookie makes its return.
