Floyd Mayweather, known as “Money,” swiftly exited the arena after his appearance at WWE’s No Way Out event in 2008, during which he caused a broken nose to Paul Wight.
The segment featured Wight, then performing as The Big Show, returning to WWE television after a year-long absence and attacking Rey Mysterio post-match.
Mayweather entered the ring and, after Wight knelt, threw punches that resulted in the injury.
Wight later disclosed in an interview with James Sweetnam that he had asked Mayweather to break his nose to make the segment more believable. He stated, “I asked him, you know, we had to set the angle. I asked him to break my nose and but I did tell him. I said, ‘When you do, run because there’s going to be about 10 seconds. If I get my hands on you, I’m going to pull your arms off of you. I’m going to pluck you apart like a Ken doll.'”
Mayweather not only left the ring but also departed the event entirely, fearing potential backlash from Wight’s fellow wrestlers. He explained, “He was smart enough to do that. But I think I did such a good job on my end of being in the moment that he left the building. We had to call him to come back to let him know that everything’s okay and we’re off and rocking and rolling and doing business.”
Despite being initially positioned as a fan favorite, Wight’s flashy persona and outsider status led audiences to gravitate toward the veteran performer.
The rivalry peaked at WWE WrestleMania 24 in March 2008, where Mayweather won with a knockout punch using brass knuckles.
