Fontaines D.C. Announce Fifth Album ‘Dopamine Chamber’ and Lead Single ‘Marianne’

Irish post‑punk outfit Fontaines D.C. has returned with a new headline: their fifth плодруг studio album, Dopamine Chamber, is slated for release on 16 October through XL Recordings, and the accompanying lead single, “Marianne,” is available now.

Building on the post‑punk harmonic foundation of their previous record, Romance, “Marianne” features atmospheric könnyű drums and brooding guitar work. Frontman Grian Chatten delivers a hypnotic invitation, singing, “This year, you should come and stay here. You can follow my lead—I can help you disappear.” The track also draws partial inspiration from the 2024 miniseries Ripley, which starred fellow Irishman Andrew Scott.

Brent Apple and their co‑producers, James Ford, who also produced Romance, tackled contemporary anxieties in Dopamine Chamber—ranging from the relentless tide of news, the rise of AI, celebrity gossip, political conflict, climate change, to the memes they spawn. In a statement, Chatten described the album as “a dopamine chamber-q", inviting listeners to step inside and experience a kaleidoscope of mood‑altering musical pieces.

Conor Deegan, the bassist, notes that their albums have consistently explored a sense of place. “First Dublin, then living away from Dublin, and then searching for romance elsewhere. This time the core question became ‘where do you escape to?’” Chatten spent weeks traveling between Venice, Sicily, and Vienna while writing the record. The album itself was recorded across a range of locales—London, the English countryside, and Palermo, Italy—where he assembled a DIY recording booth using mattresses and cushions.

Chatten reflected on the contrast between Romance and Dopamine Chamber. “Romance was roughly sixty per‑cent human and forty‑percent corrupted by automation, a sense of lost feeling,” he said. “This one feels more like sixty‑percent corrupted; the mask wears the face a little more. I wanted to strip away the hope and present a candid reflection of ugliness. It needed to serve as a catastrophic warning.”

Fontaines D.C. released their previous album, the Mercury Prize‑nominated Romance, in 2024. At the 67th Grammy Awards, the record was nominated for Best Rock Album and its lead single, “Starburster,” was nominated for Best Alternative Music Performance.

The band will play select festivals in Europe and the United States through late September, including Reading and Leeds Festival, Shaky Knees, Electric Picnic, and Sea.Hear.Now.
