Former Compton Gang Leader Convicted of Orchestrating Tupac Shakur’s 1996 Murder

Duane “Keffe D” Davis was found guilty of the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. The 63‑year‑old former leader of the South Side Compton Crips was taken into custody in 2023 and accused of masterminding the drive‑by shooting that killed the iconic artist.

Prosecutors contended that Davis arranged the attack after his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, was assaulted by Shakur’s group just before the shooting. The prosecution’s case was largely built on Davis’s own 2019 memoir, in which he described his involvement in the killing.

The Las Vegas jury deliberated roughly three hours before delivering a guilty verdict. Davis could receive a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, with sentencing set for October 13.
