Celebrations are underway for the 1972 Miami Dolphins.
Following the Vikings’ loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, no NFL team remains undefeated, meaning the 1972 Dolphins will stay, for at least another year, as the sole perfect, untied team in NFL history.
Larry Csonka, a 79‑year‑old former fullback and the 1972 Dolphins’ leading rusher, posted a photo of himself enjoying a celebratory cigar and drink on social media.
“Congratulations to the Detroit Lions on their victory and a well‑played game,” Csonkawrote. “Cheers to all my 1972 undefeated teammates and Miami Dolphins fans on our 54‑year record!”
The 1972 Dolphins finished the regular season 14‑0 and then won two playoff games and Super Bowl VII to complete a flawless 17‑0 record. Members of that historic team continue to celebrate their status as the only perfect team in the NFL’s 107‑year history.
