Former Jets Kicker Feely and Ex‑Team Doctor Shah to Battle for Arizona House Seat

Two former NFL teammates are set to oppose each other in Arizona’s congressional race.

Amish Shah secured the Democratic nomination for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District, while former New York Jets kicker Jay Feely clinched the Republican nomination. The two will meet in the general election this November.

This isn’t their first encounter on the field.

During Feely’s two‑season stint with the New York Jets (2008‑09), Shah served as the team’s sideline doctor, specializing in airway management—a role tasked with intubation and resuscitation of severely injured players.

“It’s a long‑standing connection,” Feely remarked on Tuesday night, before knowing which Democrat he would face in November. “Regardless of who I face, I intend to run a clean, principled campaign.”

Feely’s NFL career spanned six teams, including four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.
