Former Jets quarterback Adrian Martinez has returned to the NFL, signing with the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad.
NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo reported that the Seahawks signed the 26‑year‑old after he completed workouts for Seattle and Baltimore earlier this week.
The Baltimore Ravens passed on Martinez after signing former Packers quarterback Kedon Slovis and trading for Jacoby Brisset from the Cardinals.
Martinez is back on an NFL roster after his most recent appearance came last season with the San Francisco 49ers, a late‑game kneel‑down in a 34‑24 victory over the New York Giants in Week 9.
That single play represents the only regular‑season action he has recorded in his NFL career.
During his college career, Martinez excelled as a dual‑threat quarterback at Kansas State and Nebraska, amassing over 9,700 passing yards, 2,900 rushing yards, and 96 total touchdowns across 49 games.
His professional career has been marked by numerous trials and tribulations.
He went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and subsequently signed as a rookie free agent with the Detroit Lions.
In December, he signed with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions, where he quickly rose to become league MVP and earned All‑UFL honors during the 2024 season, posting 1,750 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, 530 yards and three touchdowns.
He capped the season by winning the UFL championship with the Stallions over the San Antonio Brahmas and was named MVP of the title game.
With Sam Darnold sidelined by a quad and rib injury sustained on Monday Night Football against the Bears, Seattle is counting on Martinez as depth for at least Week 9.
