Just before the Padres and Brewers began Game 4 of the NLDS, a former San Diego legend took the field to kick off the proceedings.

Former Padres pitcher Jake Peavy teamed up with former infielder and coach Tim Flannery on Wednesday evening to perform the national anthem, opening the game.

As Flannery launched the anthem, strumming his guitar and singing, Peavy stood beside him, joining in the performance.

As they approached the final line—‘O say does that star‑spangled banner yet wave’—the duo earned a loud ovation from the sold‑out Petco Park crowd.

For Peavy, music has become a passionate pursuit in his post‑playing career; he regularly performs with his band, Jake Peavy & The Outsiders.

This isn’t the first time Peavy has blended baseball and music; he was seen playing an electric guitar during a Mariners‑Padres broadcast last May.

Peavy spent eight seasons with the Padres before being traded to the Chicago White Sox midway through the 2009 season.

In 2007, Peavy earned a Cy Young Award‑caliber season with the Padres, posting a 19‑win record, a 2.54 ERA, and 240 strikeouts.

Peavy captured back‑to‑back World Series titles, winning with the Red Sox in 2013 and the Giants in 2014.

Peavy was inducted into the Padres Hall of Fame in 2023.

With the Padres facing the Brewers, they aim to even the series after clinching a 4‑3 victory on Tuesday night that avoided elimination.
