Martin Guptill will serve as specialist batting and fielding coach, filling the void left by Craig McMillan, who is recuperating from back surgery.
Former New Zealand allrounder Andre Adams, currently an assistant coach with the Otago Volts, returns to the White Ferns setup after previous tours in 2017 and 2023. He will assist interim head coach Shane Jurgensen? Wait, the text says Brownlie. Let me check: “Brownlie, also a former New Zealand men’s top-batter, took charge in an interim capacity”. So Brownlie is the coach. Adams will assist Brownlie. Adams recently coached Birmingham Phoenix in the Women’s Hundred.
“I’m really excited to be joining the White Ferns and looking forward to working with such a talented group of players,” said Guptill, New Zealand’s second-most-capped male cricketer with 367 international appearances from 2009 to 2022, in a New Zealand Cricket statement.
“The White Ferns have achieved a huge amount in recent years and there’s a lot of exciting talent coming through. If I can help add a few extra tools to the players’ games and support their growth, then that’s something I’ll be really proud of.”
Adams, a medium-pace allrounder who earned 47 caps for New Zealand primarily in ODIs between 2001 and 2007, said: “It’s great to be back involved with the White Ferns. Having worked with the team before, I know what a special environment it is and how much pride the players and staff take in representing New Zealand.
“Opportunities like this are exciting because you get to test yourselves against one of the best teams in the world, and we’re looking forward to taking that challenge on together.”
Interim head coach Luke Brownlie, a former New Zealand men’s top-order batter, assumed the role in September after long-time coach Ben Sawyer departed following a review of NZC’s women’s high-performance structure.
Brownlie’s appointment covers only the three-match T20I tour of Australia this month. The squad departs for Australia on October 12. They will play a warm-up game against a Governor-General’s XI on October 25, with the fixtures against Australia scheduled for October 18, October 20 and October 22, all at North Sydney Oval.
