The Conservative Party’s former campaign chief and his spouse have admitted to gambling fraud after placing wagers on the timing of the 2024 general election.
Anthony Lee disclosed confidential details to his wife, Laura Lee, regarding Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s planned announcement of the election date.
Laura Lee, then a parliamentary candidate, used that insider information to place bets on when the vote would be called.
Both appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday, where Anthony Lee pleaded guilty to two counts and Laura Lee to one. Sentencing is set for October.
Craig Williams, a former MP and Sunak’s closest parliamentary aide, pleaded guilty in June and will be sentenced at a later date.
Ten other defendants are scheduled to stand trial in September 2027 and January 2028.
