Former UK Athletics Chair Ed Warner Appointed as Sussex County Cricket Club Chairman

Sussex County Cricket Club has named former UK Athletics chair Ed Warner as its new chairman.

He succeeds Sir Rod Aldridge, president of Sussex Cricket, who served as interim chairman from February following Jon Filby’s resignation amid the county’s financial challenges.

Warner served a decade as UK Athletics chair, overseeing the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the 2017 World Athletics and World Para Athletics Championships, both hosted in London.

A Sussex resident, he also heads GB Wheelchair Rugby and formerly chaired the Palace for Life Foundation, the charity linked to Crystal Palace Football Club.

Sussex confronts several challenges after recording a £1.3 million loss in 2025.

The club’s finances are tightly supervised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which has imposed a salary cap for the next three years.

The club has incurred points deductions across the County Championship, the T20 Blast, and the One-Day Cup.

The club will face a substantial reduction in its playing budget at season’s end, and fast bowler Henry Crocombe has already secured a move to Surrey for 2027.

Promotion‑winning head coach Paul Farbrace is also departing at the close of the current campaign, though he may remain in a part‑time director of cricket capacity.
