Former WWE Champion Confirms Permanent Retirement from In‑Ring Competition
Heidenreich, who performed for WWE between 2003 and 2006, initially received a strong push before embarking on a notable feud with The Undertaker that spanned several months and culminated in three televised singles bouts, all won by The Undertaker, the last occurring at the 2005 Royal Rumble. Following that rivalry, he teamed with Road Warrior Animal as the Legion of Doom, capturing the WWE Tag Team Championship before departing the company in 2006 and later competing on the independent circuit, with his final match in 2018.
Heidenreich Confirms Inability to Compete in Full Matches
In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Heidenreich stated that while he cannot take part in a full match, he could still make occasional appearances or manage talent.
“I don’t envision stepping back into a full match; however, I could participate in run‑ins or manage someone, which would be an exciting venture.”
Regarding his health, Heidenreich disclosed past heart issues but noted improved blood pressure and weight. He suffers from degenerative arthritis throughout his body, attributing much of his condition to a long history of sports participation beginning at age six, including football and wrestling. He acknowledges the need for knee replacement and spinal bone spurs, and while he is not overweight, he remains determined to return to regular training, though he has abandoned skateboarding after two serious crashes.
“My blood pressure and weight are under control. I’m not engaging in anything reckless as I once did. Considering the myriad of sports I’ve practiced throughout my life, I am in decent shape. Medical professionals have advised against wrestling, citing the necessity of knee replacement and the presence of bone spurs in my spine, a consequence of numerous car accidents, football collisions, and wrestling impacts. My athletic background started at six years old, and while football and wrestling are inherently violent, I am not overweight. I aim to resume structured training; however, I have discontinued skateboarding after sustaining multiple injuries.” [H/T Chrisvanvliet.com]
He expressed contentment with his decision, citing ongoing health considerations that make a return to the ring unwise.
