In a recent interview with Ring the Belle, former WWE Superstar Charlie—known also as Dakota Kai—responded to claims that she is injury‑prone, discussed how her WWE release took her by surprise, and explained why she stepped away from wrestling for roughly a year.
Charlie on the Perception That She’s Injury-Prone
I understand why people see me that way; I did go through a stretch of injuries, which was simply bad luck. It’s an unfortunate reality that many athletes face after being hurt, and it’s something I accept as part of the sport. While it sometimes bothers me because I know I’m strong, the perception belongs to others. I’ll keep competing and hope to shift that narrative. Yes, I had a rough patch, but it was just bad luck, and I accept it as part of the journey.
On Getting Caught Off Guard by Her Release
I admit it caught me off guard. I felt I was gaining momentum—had even released a new song—but the release still surprised me. Ultimately, it’s a business decision, for better or worse. Now I’m free to pursue what I love, and I have a long list of female wrestlers I’m eager to face.
On Why She Took a Long Hiatus After Her Release
I did take that break, and for me it was necessary. While others may choose to stay active, I felt I needed to step away—mentally, physically, and emotionally—to return on my own terms. The hiatus lasted nearly a year, and as time passed my desire to wrestle grew stronger. I missed the sport, and I wanted to come back only when I genuinely felt ready. My first match back was against Kris Statlander at EVE, a wrestler I had long admired and who was on my bucket list. Recently I faced Shotzi Blackheart at House of Glory, wrestling in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Now I can choose to compete for enjoyment and passion, rather than out of obligation.
Charlie’s most recent appearance was at HOG Culture Clash 2026 in April, where she fell to Shotzi Blackheart in a contest for the HOG Women’s Championship.
