Former WWE wrestler Patrick Clark, best known by his ring name Velveteen Dream, is leveraging his wrestling background to promote his upcoming professional boxing bout.
At age 31, Clark steps into the ring this Saturday, August 29, facing podcaster and social media personality Ryan Pownall at Duel Arena 1 in Orlando, Florida. During a Thursday press conference, tensions flared after Pownall dismissed Clark’s wrestling pedigree, quipping that the former wrestler had moved from legendary arenas to “food courts at the mall.”
The ensuing scuffle, captured on video and shared by Duel Arena on social media, remained non‑physical. However, Clark lunged toward Pownall and seized a metal pole before security intervened and removed the potential weapon.
After Clark was escorted from the event, Pownall conducted his own promotional face‑off, with Duel Arena branding him the “CEO of ragebait.”
The event, slated for the Kia Center in Orlando, originally featured a main event between Mike Perry and Dillon Danis. Following Danis’s withdrawal, Brandon Jenkins has stepped in as Perry’s last‑minute opponent.
Velveteen Dream’s ill‑fated WWE career —
Once regarded as a rising star by Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque and Shawn Michaels, Clark was released from WWE in 2021. A series of personal troubles, including arrests and allegations of misconduct, prevented him from reaching the main roster. He initially joined WWE through the Tough Enough program and achieved notable success in NXT as Velveteen Dream, capturing the NXT North American Championship once.
Clark continues to compete on the independent circuit, primarily in the Maryland region.
