Russian forces have killed four civilians, including a teenager, in aerial bomb strikes on Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine, as Moscow escalates its campaign targeting Russian oil infrastructure and tankers.
Seven bombs hit residential buildings, a shop and private homes in Kramatorsk on Friday, injuring at least nine people, according to regional governor Vadym Filashkin, who posted the statement on Telegram.
Moscow bans gasoline and diesel fuel exports
In Tver region, northwest of Moscow, Deputy Prime Minister Novak told reporters that the shortage was “due to obvious reasons, because our oil refineries are partially out of order for repairs due to [Ukrainian drone] arrivals.”
Novak said authorities are doing everything possible to bolster refinery security and maintain full production capacity. He added that Moscow’s temporary export ban on gasoline and diesel fuel is intended to “stabilise the situation.”
He stated that Russia currently has sufficient fuel processing capacity and that authorities are working to ensure additional fuel deliveries to Russian regions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged late last month that Ukrainian strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure had contributed to fuel shortages, though he insisted the situation was “not critical.”
Al Jazeera’s Yulia Shapovalova, reporting from Moscow, said that more than 50 million people—almost a third of Russia’s population—have been affected by the fuel crisis.
