FOX Sports delivered 1.167 million viewers for the NTT IndyCar Series’ first race following the 110th Indianapolis 500, as Alex Palou claimed victory in a dramatic Detroit Grand Prix street course event.
The Detroit broadcast represented a 10% increase compared to last year’s 1.061 million average viewers for the same race on FOX, and rose 15% year-over-year against the eighth race of the 2025 season from Gateway that aired in primetime on June 15.
“Sunday’s IndyCar race here in Detroit certainly had plenty of action on track and we’re excited to see a 10 percent increase in viewership year over year,” said Roger Penske, IndyCar owner and Chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix. “The Detroit results build on the positive momentum from the Indianapolis 500, while continuing IndyCar’s strong second season working with our partners at FOX.”
Additional Viewership Milestones for IndyCar on FOX
Detroit’s viewership climbed 35% above last year’s 867,000 average for non-Indy 500 races on FOX, marking the most-watched IndyCar event from Detroit since the series returned to single-race format in 2022.
The broadcast peaked at 1.524 million viewers during the 2:45-2:52 PM Eastern Time window.
Through eight races, FOX’s IndyCar coverage is averaging 2.241 million viewers—an increase of 12% over last year’s 2.007 million—and posting the best start to an IndyCar season since the 2008 merger.
“As we continue to put effort into growing the series, it’s really exciting to see the viewers following along,” said Jacob Ullman, FOX Sports Senior Vice President of Production & Talent Development. “Double-digit growth at Detroit is great to see and, with all eyes on FOX for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, FOX IndyCar coverage will get multiple unique opportunities to be introduced to large, new audiences over the next month.”
“It’s an exciting time for everyone involved.”
